I brewed this one this weekend. It is a offshoot from dogfish head's blood orange hefe. I did not have any blood oranges so i used normal oranges and waiting to see how it turns out.
6.0lb Wheat LME .6lb Wheat Dme 1oz Hallertau Hops .5oz US Goldings 4 large oranges White Labs hefeweizen ale 380
Process:
Zest 3 of the 4 oranges (not the white part. makes it really bitter) peel all 4 oranges cut oranges into pieces small enough to fit in the carboy bring 1 gallon water to 170 degrees and add orange chunks and zest keep at 170 for 25 minutes then cool to 70 degrees. (this will be added to the wort right before yeast pitch)
The boil:
Bring 5 gallons to a rolling boil. take off heat and add the DME and LME. (prevents scorching on bottom of brew pot) put back on heat and bring back to a boil When boiling add .5oz Hallertau hops. 60 minute with 20 left add .5oz Goldings with 5 left add .5 Hallertau
remove from heat and and cool to 75ish transfer orange mix into carboy, then transfer wort. ( i shook the crap out of mine to get oxygen into the wort mix) Pitch yeast ( I shook it again for good measure)
Place airlock or blowoff tube and wait ten days or so.
OG 1.048 (wort) FG to be determined (original recipe says 1.010-1.014) I did not pull a measurement with the orange mix in there but i probably should have.

Just got around to cracking some of these open. I have to say it is one of my favorites that I have brewed yet. The aroma is mildly citrusy and the up front taste is a hint of orange. you can taste some of the zest I threw in there as well as a small hop kick at the end. I would have to say I will brew this one again. But i am going to change a couple things to the recipe.

Awesome,
Thanks for giving us an update. Are you going to enter it in the Brewoff?

Go to the beer nut's web site, or just check the post on this blog here. But it's simple, stop in to the beer nut in salt lake and they can set you up. Of if you live too far away, they have into on mailing your stuff.
